About

Dr. Khashayar Farzam

The
Story

Dr. Khashayar Farzam is a Canadian and American board certified physician with a special interest in men's health topics. Dr. Farzam grew up in Ajax, Ontario and attended Ontario Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology. Afterwards, he moved to the United States and started medical school. He attended the University of New England in Maine. He then completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Iowa, before returning to Canada.

Dr. Farzam practices as a emergency room physician at Grand River hospital and St. Mary's hospital, in Kitchener, Ontario. These serve as two high acuity and busy hospitals that treat approximately 140,000 patients per year.

Dr. Farzam has practiced travel medicine, has done many minor surgical procedures on a referral basis for Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding regions and has extensive experience with walk-in clinic medicine.

He also is a Clinical Assistant (adjunct) professor at McMaster University medical school, has numerous peer reviewed publications, has received many academic and athletic awards, enjoys going on Podcasts and has been a reviewer for the American Journal of Men's Health.

He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Growing up, Khashayar Farzam competed in various sports and eventually settled into becoming a track and field sprinter at the provincial & national levels. After a pause from athletics, Dr. Farzam took up Powerlifting as a competitive sport at the age of 21. During his first full year competing, he was able to set numerous provincial, national and federation world records and represented Team Canada at the World Powerlifting championships in Finland in 2015 where he won a silver man. He has subsequently competed for many years, most recently representing Canada at the 2024 world championships with plans to compete internationally for years to come. Dr. Farzam is also the 2024 national champion and 2024 Pan American champion. He also set a Guinness world record in 2023 in the bench press.

During his time in high levels sports, Dr. Farzam realized how prevalent the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), such as anabolic steroids or peptide hormones or stimulants can be. There was also the realization on the missing gap in evidence-based medicine, when it came to helping patients who used PEDs and faced health risks. Similarly (although different populations) patients at times were not being correctly cared for when it came to hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Farzam's experience in the emergency department also showed the importance of preventative health care and health optimization in preventing disease.

It was the combination of all of these that led to Dr. Farzam becoming a Men's Health consultant and also starting the KW Men's Health Clinic. The intention was to provide a evidence-based medical service to various men who, for various reasons, required more targeted and nuanced health screening and optimization.
